چکیده

We subscribe to the assumption that the self is fundamentally relationalÐthat is, entangled with signi®cant others Ðsuch that key elements of the self are experienced in relation to signi®cant others, even when others are not present. In our socialcognitive model of transference, transference occurs when a mental representation of a signi®cant other is activated by cues in a new person that resemble the other. As a result, the self in relation to this signi®cant other is activated, eliciting changes in affect, expectancies, motivations, and behaviors, as well as in the nature of the working self-concept, all re ̄ecting the version of the self one is when with the signi®cant other. Moreover, when people experience a threat to either a signi®cantother relationship or the self in the context of an encounter with a new person who triggers transference, this sets into motion self-regulatory processes, which play out in relations with the new person. Overall, we argue that the evocation of prior experiences with signi®cant others tells us something about the nature of the self, affect, and self-regulation that has implications for both resiliency and vulnerability.

Visual Tracking of Self-occluding Articulated Objects Contents 1 Introduction 1 2 a Framework for Tracking Self-occluding Objects 2

Computer sensing of hand and limb motion is an important problem for applications in human-computer interaction, virtual reality, and athletic performance measurement. We describe a framework for local tracking of self-occluding motion, in which parts of the mechanism obstruct each others visibility to the camera. Our approach uses a kinematic model to predict occlusion and windowed templates t...

Similarity Image Retrieval with Signi cance-Sensitive Nearest-Neighbor Search

Nearest-neighbor (NN) search in high dimensional space is widely used for the similarity retrieval of images. Recent research results in the literature reveal that NNsearch might return insigni cant NNs in high dimensional space because points could be so scattered that every distance between them might yield no signi cant di erence. Insigni cant NNs are troublesome with respect to the e ciency...

Trends in ̄ood and low ̄ows in the US were evaluated using a regional average Kendall's S trend test at two spatial scales and over two timeframes. Field signi®cance was assessed using a bootstrap methodology to account for the observed regional cross-correlation of stream ̄ows. Using a 5% signi®cance level, we found no evidence of trends in ̄ood ̄ows but did ®nd evidence of upward trends in low...

Non-intrusive quantification of performance and its relationship to mood

The number of jobs that takes place entirely or partially in a computer is nowadays very signi cant. These workplaces, as many others, often o er the key ingredients for the emergence of stress and the performance drop of its long-term e ects: long hours sitting, sustained cognitive e ort, pressure from competitiveness, among others. This has a toll on productivity and work quality, with signi ...
